Many of you were aware that in 2008, HERS partnered with ABWHE (Association of Black Women in Higher Education) for our first Study Tour: "Women & Leadership in South African Higher Education." We are in the preliminary stages of planning another two-week study tour in South Africa, September 4-20, 2010.
The trip will include a week of tour and discussion in Johannesburg, Soweto, Pilansberg Game Park and Cape Town, South Africa, before participation in the annual week-long "institute" of our sister program in Cape Town, South Africa--the HERS SA Academy, September 12-18.
We currently anticipate that costs for the two weeks would total $6400 per person, IF we have a full tour group of 15 travelers. We are seeking information now about how many of you might be interested in participating.
The total price of $6400 per person for a 15-person tour includes the following:
--Airfare from NYC/Johannesburg/Cape Town/NYC (leaving Sept 4 and returning to NYC Sept 20)
--Airport transfers and transportation for tours
--3 nights in Johannesburg, 1 night at Game Park, 10 nights in Cape Town (taxes included)
--Meals in South Africa: All breakfasts, 12 lunches, 12 dinners (other meals on days when participants have free time)
--Tour guides in Johannesburg, Soweto, Pilansburg and Cape Town
--Tuition for HERS SA Academy (Sunday afternoon September 12 through noon Saturday September 18)
NOTE: The HERS SA Academy is a week-long intensive program giving 80 women each year the opportunity to learn about higher education issues and women's leadership issues affecting South Africa, to gain information and perspective from women leaders in higher education from across South Africa and other African nations, and to participate in small group sessions in order to build professional networks.
This tour would be an extraordinary opportunity to meet women colleagues and higher education leaders in one of the most exciting areas of the world. **If you would be interested in joining us, we need to hear from you right away.** Additional information and formal application materials will be sent to those interested. Applications are due by February 22. A non-refundable deposit of $1000 is due from each accepted participant by March 15; final payment will be due July 1, 2010.
Best wishes,
Judith
